Civil Ceremony

Beamish Hall is licensed for Civil Ceremonies and can offer you a choice of locations within the Hall to ideally suit the number of guests that you wish to attend.

Guidance Notes

The Registration and Marriage Acts require that all Civil Marriages are celebrated by a Superintendent Registrar and registered by a Registrar of Marriages. The couple seeking to be married is responsible for booking and for paying the fees for the attendance of the registration staff. No one else can do so on their behalf.

Couples seeking to be married at the Hall are required to give Notice of Marriage to: The Superintendent Registrar at Stanley Register Office, 7 Thorneyholme Terrace, Stanley. Tel 01207 235849.

Please note that couples are also required to give notice to the Superintendent Registrar for the Registration District in which they live.

The civil ceremony must be held between the hours of 09:30 – 16.30.

Any readings, music or performance that forms part of the Civil Marriage Ceremony celebrated at the Hall must be non-religious in content. Please ask the Superintendent Registrar for further details.

No food or drink (including alcohol) may be served or consumed in the room where the wedding takes place for one hour prior to the ceremony, or during the ceremony itself.

The areas approved for the celebration of Civil Marriages are the Common Room, Drawing Room, State Room, Shafto Hall, the Monboucher, Winter Garden and Eden Room.

The general public cannot be excluded from any Civil Marriage Ceremony.
